Present, President Graham, Governor Warner, Messrs. Doherty, Waterbury, and President Snyder. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. President Snyder presented the following communication from Professor Shawi in regard to field work:- East Lansing, Mich., February 23, 1909. President J. L. snyder, East Lansing, Michigan. Dear Sir,- - • • About one year ago the State Board of Agriculture authorized the establishment' of extension work along Animal Husbandry lines. The efforts dur-; ing a part of this time consisted in presenting a plan to stimulate live stock improvement in the state through the establishment of co-operative breeders! associations. In this work a field" agent has been employed for about five •• > Communica- months at a cost not to exceed a few hundred dollars. The results as given in circular ^, have been simply amazing, md it seems as though a wave of reform• in improved cattle breeding has begun to sweep over the state. I hereby reconmend that extension work be established also along the lines of soils, crops and horticulture, I am satisfied that the work of the College and Experiment Station can be placed before the people of the state in an im- pressive manner that will produce speedy results in the improvement of our tion froim;:; Mr* Shaw in- regard to fiell work. agricultural conditions in general. If ponsible it seems desirable that these lines of work be started immed- iately, it should be undertaken in a very moderate way for the first year at least without involving the expenditure of unduly large sums of money till the plan in tried out.
