Staff memhers with permanent tenure are not to be permitted to live in College-operated housing for more than two years after the original appointment. h. Instructors, assistant Professors, and associate professors during their probationary periods may live in College housing for the term of their original appointment. Upon Reappointment they may apply for College housing but will be given a second priority to new employees* Once reassigned housing, the assignment will be effective for the period of the reappointment. c. Instructors, assistant professors, or associate professors without permanent tenure who through promotion or reappointment acquire tenure while living in College housing may live in College housing not to exceed one year beyond the "beginning of the next fiscal year after the appointment with permanent tenure is approved by the Board* d. Hon-academic staff members to be eligible for housing must he full-time employees in positions requiring technical or administrative responsibility. Such employees will be limited to a maximum of three years in College housing, e* Since barracks apartments and trailers are intended primarily for students, faculty members given a temporary assignment to these units must file an application for permanent apartments or Faculty Village at the time authorization to harracts apartments is made. When there is a vacancy in the tupe of apartment applied for, this unit must he taken or the application will be permanently forfeited. 'The maximum time that any faculty member will be allowed to stay in barracks apartments will be two years from the date of moving in. f. Notwithstanding the rules set forth ahove, single staff memhers with tenure may he allowed to remain in the permanent apartments in the 0 and 1-"bedroom units, and new applications from single people with tenure will he received as long as there is not a waiting list of other qualified personnel. g. Where a new staff member during his probationary period is renting off-campus housing and has his property sold from under him, he may apply for College housing. Persons owning housing in the East Lansing area are ineligible to occupy College-owned housing. The President advised the Board that the Federal Communications Commission had granted our request for permission to construct a Television station on UHF Channel 60.' The President informed the Board of negotiations with the Fund for Adult Education of the Ford Foundation and reported that under certain conditions Ford Foundation was ready to make a grant of $100,000 toward the costs of the installation of the Television station. On motion of Mr. Armstrong* seconded by Miss Jonest it was voted to accept this grant under the conditions outlined and to authorize the President to so advise the Fund for Adult Education and to express the sincere gratitude of the Board for this generous cooperation. On motion of Mr. Mueller, seconded by Mr. Brody, it was voted to authorize the construction of a Television station and the purchase of the necessary items of equipment with the funds that are available for this purpose with the understanding that detailed recommendations as to height of antenna, location of the transmitters, et cetera, will be presented to the Board for approval. k, Mr. Lautner and Mr. Foster met with the Board to discuss their thinking with reference to the replacement of trailers and other married housing units with semi-permanent housing for married students.
