The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. The Secretary presented the following letter from Mr.C.V.R. Townsend, Land Agent of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company, in reference to additional land for the Upper Peninsula Experiment Station;- Negaunee, Mich., Nov.24th,1909. Mr. A. H. Brown, Secretary, Michigan Agricultural College, Ea3t Lansing, Mich. Dear Sir•:.- I have yours of the 19th. • There would be no question with reference to our people donating to th9 Chatham Experimental Station a section of land for the Station's use. We should be very glad, indeed, to have the Station enlarge its holdings and have the Board take a hold of the Station aggressively and make it worthy of its name. . , : I have discussed this matter full:/ with our President and am directed to say that the land will be deeded to the Station at a purely nominal figure, with the understanding, however, that the land would revert in case the land was not used for the purpose for which it was given. I presume--your 3oard would not object to our usual form of mineral reservation. The land which we propose, giving is that which lies southeast of your present Station and is the land which was looked over by your members when visiting the Station last year. At the present time it is covered ^ith timber. We would expect to remove this and give you the land after the timber has all been removed. Kindly let me know if this is satisfactory to your Board, and oblige. . Yours truly, C.Y.R.Townsend, Land Agent. Letter in ?e addi- tional land for the Upper Peninsula Experiment station. On motion of Mr.Wallace, the following resolution was adopted: RESOLVED, That the proposition of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company as set forth in the above letter be accepted, provided the said company remove the timber in a straight line across the section, beginning on the side next to the Experiment Station farm at the rate of not less than 160 acres per year. On motion of President Snyder, the Secretary was directed to acknowledge the receipt of the report of the Alumni Committee with thanks, saT/- ing that the matter will be taken into careful consideration by the Board; and the Secretary was further directed to transmit the separate parts of the reports covering the Agricultural and Engineering Divisions to Deans Shaw and Bissell, respectively, with a request for information and opinions.
