Harlan, Huff, Merriman, Smith, Stevens, Vanderploeg; President Hannah, Vice President May and Secretary Breslin The Committee convened for dinner at 6 o'clock at Kellogg Center and folloving dinner the Finance Committee meeting was held. 1. Vice President May presented a tentative appropriation request for submission to the Governor and State Department of Administration. The details of the items involved were reviewed at some length. Dean Cowden outlined in particular the needs of the Agricultural Experiment Station and the Cooperative Extension Service. On motion by Mr. Merriman, seconded by Mr. Vanderploeg, it was voted to approve this request and to authorize the officers of the Umiversity to submit these figures to the Governor and the State Department of Administration. 2. The long-range Capital Outlay needs were reviewed and it was recommended that the Board authorize submitting the following schedule to the Governor, the State Department of Administration and the Legislature: 1 LONG-RANGE CAPITAL OUTLAY NEEDS 1962-63 through 1966-67 Approval of submission of Capital Outlay needs on long-range basis. Harlan suggested that the University give consideration to the possibility that the steam plant in the old Lincoln Motor Plant recently acquired by Detroit Edison might be useful to the University and pointed out that the University of Wisconsin had recently purchased the steam plant formerly in use at the Hudson Motor Car Plant in Detroit. It was agreed that this item should be inquired into and reported back to the Board. Recommendation; for new Pro vost may be made at Nov. IT Meet, i k. President Hannah discussed the negotiations that vere in progress between the University of West Virginia and Provost Miller looking toward the possibility of his being the new President of that University. The President indicated that he hoped to have a recoinmendation for the Trustees at the November Board meeting for a replacement for Provost Miller in the event that he becomes the new President of the University of West Virginia. jThe Board unanimously joined in expressing sincere regrets at the prospect of Mr. Miller's resignation. 5. Inasmuch as the November Trustees1 meeting is being held at the Kellogg Biological Station, it was suggested that the Board members might like to have their wives accompany them. It was indicated that several of the wives would make the trip. Adjourned. 1
