" On motion of '.Mr. Vfaterbury, the following resolutions in pretest against tne passage of tne Reciprocity Bill now bafore Congress, were adopted: Whereas, tnere is now pending before Congress a bill providing for so called reciprocal trade relations between tne united States and Canada by tne terms of wriicn tne duty is removed from ail agricultural products in tne raw state, wnile tnere still remains a duty on practically ail manufactured goods, including food products of all Kinds, and Whereas, we believe -that sucn legislation is inimical to tne inter- ests of tne entire agricultural population of tne united states, since it opens tne great American marKets to the unlimited, competition in agricultural products of the vast Canadian nortn west witnout affording tne farmers of tnis country any comparable offset of benefits, and • Whereas, sucn a policy is obviously out of accord witn any system of foreign trade relations hit.nerto recognised in tins country, whether it be free trade or protection,and a, palpable and vicious discrimination against the in- terests of tne most important and fundamental industry in tne United States, American Agriculture and . : • Wnereas, the American farmer nas for years patiently awaited tne upbuilding of tne marKets of tnis country, witn little: or no direct benefit from tne protective policy, and only witnin tne past few years begun- to feel as tne reward of nis patience and industry tne stimulus of a stronger demand and larger consumption of nis products wnicn tne proposed reciprocal trade policy will surely nulify and wnicn nas even now in anticipation, toucned our agricul- ture witn its blignting hand, now tnerefore be it KiiiSOLViiiD, That in view of tnese facts, we urge upon our representatives in Congress, and especially upon tne members of tne United States Senate, from Micngan, tne importance of defeating tne Canadian reciprocity oill as initiating a vicious and unfair trade policy and, in doing so, we believe we voice tne sentiment and wisnes of the farmers not only of tnis state, but of tne entire country, wnose warning cry of protest is everywhere near!; and be it furtner ^SOLVED, Tnat a copy of tnese resolutions be transmitted oy the Secretary to tne senators from Mcnigan. - On motion adjourned.
