BOARD OF TRUSTEES
December  15, 1973

Present:  Trustees Huff, Martin, Merriman, Radcliffe, Stack, Stevens, and Thompson;

President Wharton, Executive Vice President and  Secretary Breslin, Vice President
Wilkinson, Provost CantIon, Vice Presdients Muelder, Nonnamaker, Perrin, and
Scott, Assistants  to the President Ballard and Turk, Attorney Carr.

Absent: 

Trustee Carrigan.

President Wharton called the meeting  to order at 11:30 a.m.  in Rooms 105 A and B, Kellogg
Center.

1.  Vice President Wilkinson presented  the following bids which were taken on October 17,

Because the sum of the low bids exceeded  the funds available, it was necessary for the
architect  to develop a series of cost-saving measures, including  the elimination of
the pneumatic  tube work.  These changes have resulted  in the following adjusted bid
quotations:

It is recommended  that a single contract be awarded  to Erickson  & Lindstrom  Construction
Company of Flint, Michigan in the amount of  $15,569,106.  This is the adjusted base bid
submitted by that company plus the assignment  of the adjusted bids for the mechanical,
electrical, elevator, and laboratory  equipment bids.

RESOLVED that the adjusted base bids as recommended be accepted, that the contracts

as recommended be awarded, and that the recommended budget be approved.

jUnanimously approved on motion by Trustee Thompson, seconded by Trustee Radcliffe.

Trustee Huff stated that the Trustees are very appreciative for the additional
appropriation granted by the State Legislature for this building.  The added  funds
were needed because the original bids came in over the estimated  cost of the building.
