George Perles began playing football for MSU when he came to campus in the fall of 1956. Although his career as a player ended with a knee injury, he still went on to earn an MS in administration while coaching the freshman football team. Perles spent several years off campus coaching college and national football teams before returning to MSU where he served as an assistant and then head coach of the football team, eventually becoming athletic director over all the campus sports teams. Perles was also a trustee on the MSU Board of Directors.
