Brother 'Tics: 

This  is  the  38th  annIversary  of  our· society  and  we  take 

pleasure  in  presenting the 5th  'Tic Annual. 

'1'  The object  of  this ·booklet  is  to  give  the  old  'Tics  an  idea  of 

the  accomplishments  of  their  active  brothers.  We  realize  that 

printed  matter gives  but an  inadequate idea  of  these  matters. 

Brothers,  we  urge  you  to  pay  a  visit  to  the  <tHouse  by  the 

Side  of  the Road"  and  receive  the hospitality  which  is  traditional 

of our society.  We  are sure that a  trip  back  to  M.  A.  C.  would 

not only  acquaint you  with  conditions  of  the  present;  but  also 

recall  memorie.s  of  the  past. 

The Active  Chapter 

The college  year of  1914-15  has been one of prosperity  to the 
society.  Our members have participated  in  every  branch  of  col 
lege  life. 

In  the fall  term  we  pledged  eight men  who  were  initiated  in 
the winter term,  after having successfully completed every subject 
in  their course.  This  being  a  perquisite  to  active  membership, 
according  to  our new eligibility  rule,  we feel  that the requirement 
gives  the new members a  good  start which is so essential to a man 
entering  college.  At  present  we  have  three  men  who  were 
pledged  since  the last  initiation. 

Active  members taking part in  college -activities  were: 
George E.  Julian,  who  was captain and full-back  of  the  foot 
ball  team.  He was unanimously  selected  as  captian  of  the  All 
Western  eleven  and  was  a  popular choice for  All-American. 

O.  R.  Miller was quarter-back  of  the  football  team.  Brother 

Miller  also  played  on  Varsity basketball  team. 

H.  A.  Clark  has won  a  berth  on  the baseball  team. 
C.  R.  Crozier and  V.  C.  Taggert represent M.  A.  C.  in  tennis. 
B.  B.  Harvey,  G.  E.  Julian  and  Dan  Henry  were  successful 

on  the track  team. 

M.  A.  C.  is  now  recognized as  a  potent factor  in  inter-colleg 
iate athletics  and  we  hope  that  the  society  will  always  be  well

represented  on  the various  teams. 
well  represented.  Bert Cathcart is  president  of  the  1915  Senior 
Class,  T.  W.  Keating  is  a  member of  the Liberal  Art  union,  H.  P. 
Henry  is  a  member of  the Student Council,  and  V.  C.  Taggart  is 
manager of  the Varsity debating team. 

Our scholarship  is  above  the  average  of  the  collEge,  H.  P. 
Henry and  H.  K.  Wright being members  of  the  Alpha  Zeta,  the 
National  Honorary Agricultural  Fraternity.  H.  K.  Wright is  also 
a  member of  Alpha  Psi,  National  Honorary  Veterinary  Society. 
R.  W.  Streat,  G.  T.  Hays,  H.  J.  Buell  are  members  of  Sem.  Bot., 
National  Honorary Society  of  Botony. 

In  the military department we are represented  by  Capt.  H.  P. 
Henry  and  Lieut.  L.  H.  Gork,  who  are  members  of  the  National 
Honorary  Military Fraternity,  Scabbard  and  Blade. 

Dan  Henry  and  A.  C.  Turner  are  members  of  the  College 

Mandolin  and  Glee  Club. 

The . above record  shows the type  of  men  who  compose  the 

society. 

Our literary  and  business  meetings  held  Saturday  evenings 
are a  source  of  instruction  and  enjoyment,  the  v,alue  of which can 
not  by  over  estimated.  The various society  offices  gives  the men 
an  insight  into  business  methods,  which  is  valuable  in  after life. 

W.  B.  Coulter  won  the Annual  Freshman  Oratorical  Contest 

and  was  awarded  a  gold  watch  fob  of  the  coat-of-arms. 

In  a  social  way  we  have  been  highly  successful.  A  party 
was  given  each term  as  well  as  a  reception  for  our  new  matron, 
Mrs.  Osband. 

The  House 

All  work  about  the  house  and  grounds  is  carried  out  under 
the supervision  of  the  inspector.  Freshmen  perform  the  general 
house-cleaning duties,  though  each  man  living in  the  house  takes 
care of  his  own  room. 

The kitchen  and  cafe  are  under  the  supervision  of  Mrs. 
Osband.  We  are  very  fortunate  in  having  her  with  us  again. 
She  was  matron from  1909  to  1912  and  is  an  honorary  member 
of  the society. 

We  have  completed  redecorating  the  house.  The  Senior 
class of  1915  presented  the society  with  indirect  lighting  fixtures 
for  the dining room. 

The  Grounds 

The landscape  plan  is  being  gradually  worked  out.  The 
scheme is  to  improve  part of  the  property each  year.  When com 
pleted  we  are su re  to  have  an  artistic design. 

Last fall  the City  of  East Lansing  cut down  the  grade  in  the 
road  east of  the  property.  This  necessitated  building  a  retaining 
\vall,  which  is  now  c ) m pleted.  The  society  set  aside  $100  and 
the  Alumni  association  made  up  the  balance.  The  wall  is  con 
structed  of  reinforced  concrete  with  a  broad  en trance  of  stairs 
L::ading  up  to  the house. 

T he  tennis  court  is  in  fine  shape and  is  a  popular  means  of 

recreation.

New  Men 

At  present  there  is  keen  competition  among  societies  for 
acquiring  new  members.  With  eleven  men graduating this spring 
we  will  need  exceptionally  strong new  men.  Please  notify  us  if 
you  know  of  any  men  of  'Tic calibre  who  are to  enter  M.  A.  C. 
next fall.  We  hope  that you  will  accept  this  little duty  as  being 
vital  to  the  prosperity  of  the society. 

1915  Graduates 

We  lose  many of our  most  influential  brothers  this  spring. 
H.  K.  Wright,  who  cOtJ?pleted  the  agricultural  course in 1913, 
received  his  degree,  Doctor of  Veterinary  Medicine,  at the  end  of 
the winter  term,  and  is  now  one  of  the  state  veterinarians  of 
Kentucky. 

R.  W.  Streat completes  his  work  for  a  master's  degree  III 

Botany. 

C.  B.  Morton graduates  in  Civil  Engineering. 
G.  T.  Hayes,  H.  P.  Henry,  F.  L.  Williams,  H.  ].  Buell  receIve 

their degree  in  Horticulture. 

G.  E.  Julian  and  Bert Cathcart receive  their diploma from the 

Agricultural  division. 

Dan  Henry  and  O.  R.  Miller  graduate in  Forestry. 
We  have  a  feeling  of sincere regret  as  we  bid  farewell  to  our 
brothers who  have  been  here so  long.  They  are  men,  true  'Tics 
all.  May success follow  them  in  their life's  work. 

Meeting  of  the  Building  Association 

The annual  meeting  of  the  association  was  held  in  the  Eclec 
tic  House  at East Lansing,  Mich.,  June 23,  1914,  at 3 o'clock  p.  m . 

The meeting  was called  to  order  by  Pres.  G.  B.  Wells. 
After  the  minutes  of  the  previous  meeting  were  read  and 
approved,  the  treasurer's  report,  which  was  high .y  sa ~isfactory, 
was  read  and  accepted.

member elec'-ed  to  fill  th ~  vacancy  caused  by  the  gra:h.: at ion  of 
the  active  member  of  the  class  of  '14.
