Local Jaews "A drinking fountain will soon be put in the hall of the Society building, and the old tank now there will be consigned to the scrap heap."-The Union Lit, May 2, 1896. A new porcelain "Sanitary" drinking fountain is being installed in the hallway. The old fountain became so rusty and untidy that it had to be removed. The set of oak furniture that has been reposing in the basement was resurrected by the energetic Cortright of football fame, and re It now looks like new, and is a pleasing upholstered and varnished. addition to the parlor equipment. The winter term party is to be given in the house on February 4th. That part of the attic immediately over the dressing rooms is to be .put in shape, decorated with pine boughs, rugs, curtains and elec tric lights, and used as a reception room. As we go to press, prepar ations are under way for a very tempting and inexpensive hop. At the Oratorical contest, on Jan. 28, the Lits came out on top again. Our representative, Mr. VanWagenen, of the Junior class, won first honors, and Mr. L. P . Walker, of the Columbians second. The other contestants were Mr. Collingwood of the 'Tics and Mr. Ponitz, of the Eunomians. The State Contest is to be held at M. A. C. this year ,on March 4th. M. F. Johnson, '07; R. G. Kirby, with '11; R. P. Holdsworth, with '10, and O. K. White, '07, are to be on the "Alumni Program" February 12th. From hints that they have dropped, we look for an interesting time. A bookcase has been built by a committee of two, and installed In the reading room. It is made of oak, finished in a dark finish, and it adds materially to the appearance of the room. We now have a suitable place to keep the Society books and magazines that here tofore have been a source of much annoyance. O. F. JACKSON THE MODEL PRESS LANSING
