I cann ot help but say t he Union Lit erary Society has h ad a v ery successful year. We have our men on football teams~ track teams, baseball teams, working on our college pap er s and in every th ing t hat i s of any importance in ·college activities. Not only have we done all of these thi ngs but we have raised our st andard s of s cholarship and novV are near the top in the ratirig of the f ra te rnitie s in scholarship. All of this I think i s very com mendab le a nd has gone along way towards keepin g up all of the standard s and id eals of the Union Literary SOCiety. I t give s me a great deal of plea s ure at thi s time to i n vi teo all of the alumni back for Alumni Day on Sa turday ~ June 229 1929. The boys in college are a l ways glad to see some of the old bOyq ba ck again and we hope thiJ.t you will have a li ttle t i m~ to spare to come to the house and become acquaint ed wi th us. the old boys will find things a great deal di ffe rent from the time that they were in c olle ge, b ut they should all bear in mind that the old colle ge i s changing and we sincerely hope this change may be call e d progress . John Timothy St one of Chicago will give the sermon . Cor,11TIencement ex erci ses will be held on Monday? June 24 ~ in Sleepy Hollow on the campus. Dr. Paul F. Voelker~ presid.ent of Ba ttle Cre ek colle ge , will deliver the cor,1L1encement address. THE HOUSING SITUATION A mee ting of the l ocal al umni was held during lIay in the house on Sunset Lane. Bus iness ,pertainin g to the alumni was di s cusse d and the que s tion of the new house was a gai n talke,\.l over. Recently, thr ough cash and a trade, the lot on Grand River has been dis,posed of and it is hoped that our affairs will be ad jus'ced to the extent tllat we can start actual work on a new home. When that time come s we ask t h e full support of every membe r of the so ciety, active or alumnus; and if there are any who wi sh to hurry that time, we w.ill be only to 0 glad to cooperate wi th them. SPRI NG AC TIVI TIES A review of the spring term reveals to us that members of the Li t Soci ety are still doi ng their part in campus acti vi t i es and carrying on the old re putat i on of a ti me-h onored society a s t ruly active members. Claire Pa ssink, a varsity track man in high and low hurdles, was taken into varsity club. Lorwyn Peterson i s still holding h i s place among the var s ity track men as a quarter- miler. Paul Troth wa s elected varsity cheerleader to serve for next year and has recen tly been appointed senior news editor on the Michi gan State News. Alden Cole is a member of the Freshman tracle team~ specializ i ng in high jump. Charles Li s ch was elected to Blue Key, campus hono rary, is a varsity man in high jump, and was nominated f or p re s ident of the Junior class . Ge rald Breen vIas al so made a member of Blue Key, and was active in varsi ty spring football. No r man Miller and James Scully wore both members of the Freshman baseball squad this year. Hinwood? an honorary member of 'che Uni on Literary Society? has been transferred to Honolulu for military duty next year. Ray Jennings was elected president; Gerry Breen? vice president; and Buss West is secretary. Tom VanZanden will continue to serve as treasurer.
