Was the victim of some brutal vandalism. At 1 O' clock in the morning Ken McRae discovered one of the rain shelters on fire. The following morning he discovered four greens dug up. The holes in the greens were three feet in diameter and and approximately two- feet deep. Six pine trees were damaged by being cut in half and branches torn off. The water lines around the greens were dug open to try to break them. Mail boxes on the street were torn out. Approximately $5,500.00 worth of damage was done. Mich. Turf Grass Foundation Annual Meeting March 20, 1968 Mr. James Standish of the G.A.M . was appointed the new Executive Secretary. Election was held for three new directors. Norm Kramer, Point 0 Woods C. C. Benton Harbor, and Frank Forier, Terminal Sales Corp. Dearborn were re­ elected to the Board of Directors and newly elected to the board was Bill Miller, A.B.C. Distributor., Lansing. Special awards were given to Mr. Charles Chapmen. And to James Tyson In Memorium. Mr. James Beard announced the development of a new variety of a fine bladed fescue called Winter Green which will be produced commercially in the near future. CONGRATULATIONS; Emergency Contact System A Member came up with the idea of an emergency contact system for Supts. who would be interested. What do you think? Sub Surface Watering. Bob Main, owner of Loch Lomond 1ST"C. in FliirFSs installed a new style watering system in two greens and a tee. One half inch perferated plastic pipe was buried nine inches below the surface of the green in a grid system with the lines 30 inches apart, extending completely across the green and apron area. A pressure control valve to keep between one and two pounds of pressure on the lines was installed. A ball check valve was also installed so the lines would drain themselves when the system was turned off. A more complete description of the installation can he obtained from Bob Main. Powered Golf Carts. An evaluation report on golf carts was submitted by A. Bartoni, K. Mitchelson, Wm. Madigan and Ward Swanson. The report was very well received. Upon a complete sum-up of the wear and tear of turf, a letter will be sent out to all G.A.M members. G. C. Supts, on the G.A.M. Greens Committee are A. Bartoni, W. Milne, R. Sincerbeau and C. Wolfrom, Jr. These individuals have a very important responsibility in maintaining a good working relationship- with the the Golf Association of Michigan.
