COWNIE, B.A. M.A. is a candidate for the Ph.D in Political Science at the University of Houston, Texas. An author of several articles in learned journals, he is also the editor since 1984 of the Western Association of Africanists Newsletter. MICHAEL CROWDER was Professor and Head of Department of History at the University of Botswana from 1982 to 1985. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies of the University of London where he is writing up his biography ofTshekedi Khama. Prior to his appointment at the University of Botswana his interests were concentrated on West African history on which he has published widely. MAURICE GLICKMAN M.A. (Brandis) Ph.D (Cambridge) is a Sociologist at the University of Botswana with a special interest in Deviance, social, psychological and religious. D.N.N. KHAPAGA W ANI, a graduate of Sussex University is a lecturer and Head of Department of Philosophy at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. D.L. KGAT!-II studied at the University of Botswana and Swaziland as well as at the UN Institute for Economic Development and Planning (Dakar). He is now Research Fellow at the National Institute for Development Research and Documentation. His areas of research interest include the Rural Economics of Energy and Industrialisation. WEBSTER MASENY A studied at the University of Botswana and Swaziland as well as at Howard University, Washington D.C. He is presently a lecturer in Economics at the University of Botswana. !-lis interests are mainly in economic theory and quantitative analysis. Major research interests are in foreign exchange policy issues and investment-related research. MARGO RUSSEL who studied at WitwaterSrand University and at Essex University is a Sociologist currently attached to the Social Science Research Unit at the University of Swaziland. PETER NANYENY A TAKlRAMBUDDE is Professor and Head of the Law Department as well as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and !-lead of the Department of Law at the University of Botswana. Formerly he held teaching/research appointments at law schools of Yale and Princeton Universities as well as being Lecturer in Law at the University College of Swaziland. He is the author of Technology Transfer and International Law (1980), The individual under African Law (1982) and several articles in learned journals.
