NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS PULA is a refereed journal devoted mostly to African Studies, with particular em- phasis on Southern Africa. Authors should submit three copies of their paper for consideration. Papers should be original contributions written in English, not previously published. Arti- cles which are are too specialized in one academic discipline are unlikely to be accepted. If a paper is under consideration for publication elsewhere, this must be clearly indicated by the author. Papers should be be 4,000 to 6,000 words, with a short abstract at the begin- n1l1g.On acceptance, the author must supply a corrected copy on diskette, prefer- ably in Word 5.1 with a plain ASCII text backup. (Please delete all hidden text, and do not use automatic footnote function.) Any acknowledgements should be placed as an unnumbered note at the head of the Notes. Notes should be serially numbered from 1 onwards, and listed at the end of the paper, followed by an alphabetical list of References cited in the text or in the Notes. Bibliographic citation within the text, and within Notes after first citation, should be abbreviated (author and date plus page numbers). As in: Tlou (1973: 123-24), or (Tlou, 1973: 123-24).
