Settlement and land use between the 11th and 17th centuries in eastern Botswana
This paper examines the distribution of known sites in the Central District against the agricultural potential of the landscape, using a computer application known as Geogrophic Information Systems (GIS). The ambitious goal of deriving a predictive model to assist in future archaeological surveys could not be reached. But along the way.,the researcher stumbled on a curious pattern in the distribution of earlier and later Iron Age sites: they seem to have occupied different landscapes. The reason remains to be examined.
