Several problens that faced the editorial carmittee of PUIAfrem its inception reached a clirrex in the nonths following the departure of its first editor from Botswana. Since then efforts to revive the journal have been slo~ down by the difficulty of reorganising, tracking down mislaid correspondence files and manuscripts as well as the impact of the current economic recession on the financial resources for the journal. On behalf of the new editorial carmittee I express our deep regret at the resultant break in the publication of PUIA, and consequent disap- pointment experienced by our readers, subscribers and other supporters vmo had earlier Vielc:x:JIned the birth of this journal so enthusiastically. We nevertheless feel convinced that there is still a need for a journal of this kind to corneout of one of SOuthern Africa s newest uni versi t.ies in I the SACCC region. With this recent reorganisation of financial resources of PUIAVielook forward to a period of greater stability and regular future publication of the journal. It is accordingly, with this reneVJedconfidence and hope that the editorial oomnittee once nore invites scholars fran allover the wrld, especially fran Africa and African-based universities and research institu- tes to contrib.1te articles, I:xJokreviews etc. As an interdisciplinary journal PUIAVielcornescontrib.1tions on problens of developrent with special reference to SOuthern African countries in the SACCC region.
