CONTRIBUTORS WILLIAM MINTER is currently associated with the African Studies Program at Georgetown University in Washington. He has a Ph.D in sociology from the University of Wisconsin and has written several books on southern Africa, notably King Solomon's Mines Revisited. AMPIE COETZEE, JULIAN F SMITH AND HEIN WILLEMSE are based in the Afrikaans Department at the University of the Western Cape. EDWIN RITCHKEN is a post-graduate student in politics and history at the University of the Witwatersrand. COLIN GARDNER is professor of English at the University of Natal, Pieter- maritzburg. DAVE LEWIS is the national organiser for the Transport and General Workers Union and holds an MA in Economic History from the University of Cape Town. JEREMY CRONIN is a poet and philosopher and is currently working with the African National Congress in Zambia. ANNE VAUGHAN is a researcher at the Institute for Social and Economic Research, University of Durban-Westville. RAPHAEL DE KADT lectures in political science at the University of Natal, Durban.
