based at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of
Durban-Westville.
RAPHIE KAPLINSKY is a senior research fellow at the Institute for
Development Studies, University of Sussex, England.
ALEC ERWIN is the education officer of the National Union of Metal
Workers of South Africa.
DAVID KAPLAN is associate professor of Economic History at the Univer-
sity of Cape Town.
MIKE DE KLERK lectures in economics at the University of Cape Town.
HELENA DOLNY has worked with the African National Congress in
Lusaka specifically with reference to developing policy on the land question.
