GERHARD MARE is co-editor of Transformation and senior lecturer in Sociology
and the Centre tor Industrial and Labour Studies at the University of Natal, Durban.
MARTIN NICOL is centralised bargaining officer with the National Union of
Mineworkers.
JOHN S S AULis professor at Atkinson College, York University (Canada), and the
author of numerous books and articles on African politics and society including
co-authoring The Crisis in South Africa.
JULIA SEGAR lectures in the Department of Anthropology at Rhodes University,
Grahamstown.
PETHU SEROTE is at the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education, University
of the Western Cape.
PENNY VINJEVOLD teaches at the Soweto College of Education.
BETTINA VON LJERES lectures in the Department of Politics at the University
