Note to Readers
Transformation has made some important changes to the Editorial Board.
Mike Morris and Vishnu Padayachee have resigned as editors. They have
felt eager to move on to concentrate on other interests and commitments as
part of their own transformations. Mike was a founding editor of the journal.
His tremendous enthusiasm and energy, his wide contacts and his sense of
the changing political scene in South Africa were invaluable to the initial
success and continuation of the journal. We will miss his presence and his
contribution. Vishnu came on the Board a little later. He has been instrumental
especially in making Transformation a voice for alternative economic
outlooks and analyses. His sane and steady voice has always been a factor
for stability and for quality in the production of the journal and he will be
missed just as much. Both will be retained as Founding Editors and we will
be calling on them from time to time to help us out.
   At the same time, new editors have arrived on the scene. Adam Habib has
been with us for some months; he is a political scientist based at the
University of Durban-Westville. We have now added four new names. We
hope that Imraan Valodia of the Centre for Social and Development Studies,
University of Natal, Durban will especially help to strengthen our economic
coverage. Monique Marks of UND' s Sociology Department is particularly
interested in policing and other aspects of the state-society interface. Keith
Breckenridge of the UND History Department and Lindy Stiebel of the UD W
English Department will, we hope, open the doors to a far greater coverage
of the changing cultural scene. Welcome Imraan, Monique, Keith and Lindy
alongside John, Adam and Gerry.
