Editorial Po~icy UTAFITI.is a journal of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the ,University of Dar es Salaam, devoted to articles and research information on Thnzania and East Africa primarily, and on dev.elopments in the Third World and elsewhere in generaL .' Our subject is to explain what takes place in our environment, why and how, the achievements and problems in various development efforts, and researc}l insights into possible problem-solving alternatives. ' UTAF!TI cuts across disciplinary boundaries and we would rather not be bound by the narrow confines of disciplines. We thus have had articles on themes and topics in g~ography, history, economics, technology, education, develop- ment planning, social administration, literatUI:e, statistics, law, to mention only 'a few: People of different ideological stand-points have had occasion to argue • out their positions and cases; l:!,ndwe do welcome sllch healthy debates. Iaformationto Authors: . Articles should be double' spaced and not more than 5,000 Words. In the body of the text all paragraphs should be indented by five spaces and all quota- .~ tions lon,.$er than 1 Yz lines, and not in c.ontinuous text should be indented ten spaces. <.)uotations in contipuous text should be in double quotation marks. Avoid more than1hree types of headings and subheadings.
