Elizabeth Augsbach : early Spring Lake entrepreneur
Elizabeth Augsbach recalls her memories of growing up in the Village of Spring Lake from the early 1900's through the post World War II years. She walked to school from the family home on Exchange Street and attended school in Spring Lake through the tenth grade and completed the last two years at Grand Haven High School. After graduation, she worked in a grocery store and for a local doctor as a secretary. A few years later she went to beauty school and opened her own salon. As a child, she was close to the Donner children, including George, who became an active member of the community. She also details her husband's war career and talks about how the Depression affected her family.
