Bertha Fase : Grand Haven teacher
In this interview, Bertha Fase recollects her life in Grand Haven throughout the 20th Century, including memories of the Depression Era, war-time rationing, and prohibition. She gives details about holidays and how they were celebrated and staying home during the summer to help her parents with the family business of renting houses in Highland Park. In 1953, she earned a bachelor degree in education from Western Michigan University and taught fifth grade at Central School in Grand Haven for twenty-six years. She also taught in Saugatuck for two years and at the Lansing State School for three years. She was president of Grand Haven Woman's Club, a lifetime member of Grand Haven Elks, and belonged to American Legion Post 26 in Grand Haven.
