U.S. President Barack Obama honors recipients of the 2012 Citizens Medal
President Obama honors the thirteen recipients of the Presidential Citizen’s Medal in a ceremony at the White House. The Citizens Medal recognizes Americans who perform "exemplary deeds of service." Included in the honorees are the six teachers and administrators of Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, CN who died trying to protect students from a gunman. Obama describes the actions of the honorees and says that their lives are inspirational. An unidentified military aide reads the citations. The first Citizen's Medals were awarded in 1973 by President Nixon.
