U.S. President Barack Obama speaks at the 2013 White House Science Fair recognition ceremony in the East Room of the White House
President Obama speaks at the 2013 White House Science Fair recognition ceremony in the East Room of the White House. The Science Fair celebrates the student winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across the country. This group includes Williamston, Michigan High School student Julie Xu and Spencer Ottarson, a Williamston graduate now studying computer science at Michigan State University. They displayed the buoy alarm system they created with other Williamston students which uses solar power to measure water flow and trigger an alarm to warn swimmers of dangerous conditions such as rip currents.
