U.S. President Barack Obama urges House Republicans to "reopen the government"
President Barack Obama urges House Republicans to "reopen the government," saying they "don't get to hold the entire economy hostage over ideological demands" of defunding or dismantling Obamacare. Obama recounts the 1996 shutdown and comments on the economic impact and the loss of income to federal employees. He reminds listeners that the Affordable Care Act activates the insurance exchanges today complimenting other provisions that have been in place for over four years. Obama says he will not give in to reckless demands to deny Americans affordable healthcare.
