Stop the femicide : a campaign for justice in Juarez, Mexico
Christina Obregón and Adriana Carmona present a talk entitled, "Stop The Femicide: A Campaign for Justice in Juarez, Mexico," about the femicide phenomenon in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Obregón translates for Carmona. Carmona describes the economic and social conditions in which the femicide occurs, who perpetrates the crimes, and the lack of law enforcement and protection. She describes a climate of police corruption, misogyny and the vilification of the victims. Obregón further explains the extent of the criminal enterprise, the criminal collusion, the apparent participation of some maquiladora factory personnel, and a lack of concern on the part of the U.S. government. She also describes her own efforts to raise awareness and answers questions from the audience. The video mentioned is not recorded. The session is convened by Michigan State University Librarian Diana Rivera. Sponsored by Culturas de las Razas Unidas (CRU). Held at the MSU Main Library.
