Clara Katt : Ferrysburg poet
In this interview, Clara Katt shares memories of Dutch traditions, early automobile adventures, the Interurban, farm life, and Akeley Hall. Her parents emigrated from the Netherlands and she was born on a farm in Ferrysburg on North Shore Road at the end of the nineteenth century. She and her two brothers and two sisters attended Ferrysburg School through the eighth grade. Before she was married, Clara was employed at the Story & Clark Piano Factory in Grand Haven. Then she and her husband became the proud parents of twelve children. Clara also talks about her love of nature and the woods where she found inspiration for writing poetry. Over the course of her life, she composed five books of poems.
