Ms. Marvel : no normal
Morgan Shipley, visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, delivers a presentation entitled "Ms. Marvel: no normal" about the comic book "Ms. Marvel Vol. 1" by G. Willow Wilson. Shipley talks about how popular culture has represented Islam and Arabic culture in the American Christian milieu and how Islam is often portrayed as set against Western culture and gives examples from popular film, TV, and literature. Shipley prepares the audience to discuss the comic book before breaking them into discussion groups which are not recorded. They reconvene to answer questions. Michigan State University Librarian Deborah Margolis convenes the event and introduces Shipley. Held at the MSU Main Library.
