U.S. President George W. Bush announces a national missile defense program
President George W. Bush delivers a speech announcing his intent to pursue a national missile defense program. Bush explains that while the nuclear threats of the Cold War are not as present today, the threats still remain in unpredictable ways and places. He asserts that the best way to protect the U.S. is no longer just having the ability to destroy those that would destroy us and that his goal is to reduce nuclear forces around the world. Held at the National Defense University in Fort Lesley McNair, Washington D.C.
