President George W. Bush announces his support of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, an international agreement to eliminate or restrict the use of twelve dangerous chemicals. Secretary of State Colin Powell says that environmental issues are urgent global issues. Environmental Protection Agency administrator Christine Todd Whitman says the treaty offers a new level of environmental and health protection.
