Being Russia : the past, present and future of a superpower
An interdisciplinary panel composed of Michigan State University faculty members participates in a discussion entitled, "Being Russia: the past, present, and future of a superpower." Panelists describe their individual research on the breakup of the former Soviet Union, the economic impacts in Russia and the newly independent countries, shifting geo-political ramifications, the internal power structure in Russia, and Russian aspirations for power and influence in Europe and on the world stage. Panelists are: Lisa Cook, professor of economics in the Department of Economics and professor of international relations in James Madison College; Matthew Pauly, professor in the Department of History; Kyle Evered, professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences; and Sherman Garnett, professor in and dean of James Madison College. John P. Beck, Professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, convenes the session and moderates questions from the audience with the help of Stephanie Cepak.
