U.S. President Barack Obama outlines his plan for health care reform before Congress and criticizes the opposition for using irresponsible tactics
President Barack Obama outlines his plan for health care reform before a joint session of Congress. In his remarks he acknowledges the fierce legislative debate over reform, but says that significant solutions require significant compromise. He outlines a health care plan which includes transportable individual health insurance, does not deny coverage to anyone, and creates affordable options within the marketplace. He also strongly criticizes those who he says have been irresponsible in their opposition to health care reform and says that "demagoguery and distortion" have no place in civilized debate.
