Oral history interview with Marge Riordan, 2002 February 20
Marge Riordan describes her service as an Army nurse during World War II. Riordan explains why she enlisted to the service, saying it was always her dream to be a nurse. She recalls that her family was very upset that she joined the war and talks about her training in the hospital, the various duties she gradually assumed, and her overseas training. She shares her experience as a woman in the service, remembering that she was treated well but that there were no male nurses or female doctors. Riordan talks about the poor conditions on her way to Europe, what they did to pass the time, and how she had to be a good listener when treating patients. Riordan is interviewed by Ilana Bruton.
