Oral history interview with Stella Staley, 2002 January 29
Stella Staley describes her service in the The United States Naval Reserve (WAVES) during World War II. Staley explains that her father's military experience in the first World War and her time in a drum and bugle corp inspired her to enlist. She remembers her parents were very proud and her friends were surprised when she joined the service. Staley shares her experience as a woman in the military, saying that the men were very protective of the women and that she never experienced any animosity. She talks about the different people she worked for as an interpreter, her uniform during the war, and how there were various shirts for all different activities.
