Oral history interview with Dorothy Wilkie, 2002 March 12
Dorothy Wilkie remembers her service in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. Wilkie talks about her inspiration to enlist in the armed service in 1943 and how her family and friends reacted. She shares her experiences in general training here and abroad, her time traveling to and recruiting in Australia, and life in the mobile barracks in Australia and New Guiana. Wilkie describes how the Philippines were very run down and had been subject to a number of Japanese actions. She discusses her interactions with the men of the army, and how they were allowed to date and have the occasional party. Finally, she recalls the end of the war and states that she would do it again if she had the chance. Wilkie is interviewed by Sarah McLennan.
