Oral history interview with Essie Woods, 2001 April 2
Essie Woods describes her service in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. Woods explains that she enlisted together with all of her sisters. She shares her daily experience at basic training, remembering it as her least favorite time in the service. Woods talks about going overseas to England in 1945 and how there was much fear of German U-Boats. Woods discusses the attitude men had towards women in the army and what it was like serving alongside one of her sisters, eventually even being discharged together. She states that she really valued her experience in the armed forces and would do it again given the opportunity. Woods is interviewed by Sarah McLennan.
