Western Michigan at work. 1949-02-01
In this installment of "Western Michigan at work" Dr. Willis Dunbar speaks with various ministers around Kalamazoo. Rev. Cornelius Oldenburg, pastor of the Third Christian Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, believes that it is the pastors duty to encourage spiritual development of individuals so that they may gain maturity of soul and fellowship with God. A pastor, he claims, must preach the gospel, present the word of the Lord and teach both children and adults. Rabbi Nathan Levinson states that a rabbis duty is two-fold: to serve the congregation and attempt to further the spiritual welfare of his city. Due to the fast nature of modern society, he believes that counseling has become an important part of his job. Reverend Herbert A. Miles describes the average day in the ministry of a country church while Rex Broyles, a student pastor, shares why he chose to serve God.
