What's doing in Western Michigan. 1949-08-28
In this installment of "What's doing in Western Michigan," Dr. Willis Dunbar summarizes the weeks news and upcoming events across Western Michigan. He reports on a fire that destroyed Ionia's Livestock Auction Headquarters and killed several heads of cattle, a plantif that tried to punch a defendent in the jaw during an auto theft trial, and how farmers in Greenville are stumped by a newborn jearsey cow that looks more like a deer than a calf. He tells of how four convicts escaped from the Ionia Reformatory, two of them were captured shortly after but the two still at large have the entire city on lockdown. He describes various fairs, festivals, and public events of the week such as the White Pigeon Day Celebration that 1,500 people attended, including four of Chief White Pigeons descendants. Dunbar also gives an update on the debate on how to spell Centerline, MI.
