What's doing in Western Michigan. 1949-01-30
In this installment of "What's doing in Western Michigan," Dr. Willis Dunbar reports on a variety of news stories from around the region. Dunbar discusses the various cherry pie baking contests taking place this month across western Michigan counties and shares what the Centerville Observer lists as the judging criteria. He also reports that 30,000 people attended Farm Week at Michigan State College and describes the various fatal car accidents that occurred that week. Harry Travis reports some of the lighter news such as how Cedar Springs has shipped red flannels as far as California and shares entertaining columns regarding the definition of chivalry and feelings on beards. Dunbar then tells how a committee has recommended the Homer school district not extend the contract for the current superintendent in response to recent student strikes.
