Western Michigan at work. 1949-06-28
In this installment of "Western Michigan at work," Dr. Willis Dunbar examines the Michigan to Wisconsin pipeline being constructed through Allegan. He talks about how it will provide a lead from an exhausted gas field near Big Rapids, where it can be stored and used in the summer months when the demand is lowest. In the winter it will flow the opposite direction and provide gas for all of Western Michigan. Dunbar describes the construction methods being used and how 350 men working 7 days a week have already laid 90 miles of the steel 11 inch pipe. Dr. Dunbar also talks about a fish bait business in Kalamazoo owned by Jake DeBruin. He describes how it started with Jake catching minnows in a lake and channeling lake water into his shop to keep them fresh.
