President Joe Biden's first joint address to Congress
President Joseph R. Biden delivers his first joint address to Congress reflecting on his first 100 days in office. He describes the role the government will take to help Americans struggling with the pandemic and outlines his American Families Plan and how this and other expanded federal programs will help expand and boost the middle class. He states that "The American Jobs Plan is a blue-collar blueprint to build America" while also reaffirming his commitment to reasserting democracy abroad. President Biden points to the various efforts his administration is making "historic strides" with, including the fact that for the first time two women, Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, have stood behind the president during a congressional address. "Madam speaker, madam vice president--no president has ever said those words from this podium, and it's about time," Biden proclaims.
