U.S. President George W. Bush takes his oath of office and gives his second inaugural address
Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court William Rehnquist administers the oath of office to President George W. Bush. President Bush then delivers his second inaugural address, highlighting the role of America on the world stage. Bush says that the U.S. must promote liberty throughout the world and by doing so, it insures its own freedom and survival as a nation. The guiding principle of U.S. foreign policy, Bush says, must be the protection of human rights.
