The WKAR Early Television Films Collection
The WKAR Early Television Films Collection is a result of a film digitization and preservation project supported by a one-million dollar congressionally-directed fund. The project focused on the MSU University Archives’ collection of early public television films from WKAR, starting from when it first aired on East Lansing’s television broadcasting channel 60 on January 15, 1954. The programming emphasizes the rural agricultural heritage of Michigan as well as its industrial strengths, in addition to distinct highlights on music and art. This collection is a fascinating window into early television history, as well as a glimpse of everyday life in 1950s Michigan.
