Creating is a form of contemplation for me. I create-contemplate on my life, fate, and larger global scenarios as an immigrant and human being. The Covid-19 crisis caused me job loss, canceled my home visit to India, and delayed my visa transfer by 24 months. This work, which shows a bruised bust with a pendulum and golden hand-painted fishes, represents the light and hope that kept me going through one of the darkest and most uncertain times in the history of humanity. Creating is a form of contemplation for me. I create-contemplate on my life, fate, and larger global scenarios as an immigrant and human being. When India shut down overnight, hundreds of thousands of migrant wage-laborers were stranded in cities without any food or resources. In the absence of any state support, medical assistance, and adequate food supplies, they embarked on a foot-journey to their homes hundreds of miles away. Children, the elderly, and sick people died, but the able-bodied ones continued their journey to die in their homes. This historic walk was not for life, but to die in a place where they will be given a kind farewell. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy. 1 of 2: WAITING FOR GOLDEN TIME
A yellow half-circle shape with a rectangular shape protruding out of the top to resemble a bruised bust sits on the upper half of the piece with a pendulum hanging down from the middle. The pendulum hangs from a painted mechanism inside a cutout oval shape in the yellow bust behind it. Behind the bust shape is a black sheet with golden hand-painted fishes clustered inside a black border.

2 of 2: A HISTORIC WALK
On a light tan paper background, painted footprints of all different sizes cover the piece in a darker tan-gray color. The footprints do not overlap and are turned to the left and right, following no specific path.
