The late artist Carmen Herrera once said that she liked to make her geometric paintings because she liked straight lines and wanted to put some order into the world. I agree. The chaos and uncertainty of these pandemic times make it even more satisfying to create order. The drawings I have created express my thoughts and feelings about the changes that went on during the pandemic: the empty city streets, the memorial flowers, the need to work together for the common good, moments of joy and hope, moments of sadness, and a feeling today that everything has been altered in a way that can't be reversed and must be accepted. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy. 1 of 1: Digital Drawings. Part 07
An abstract digital drawing on a white background. The drawing is composed of different sized geometric squares and rectangles. The squares and rectangles have a muted, spring-like color palette, filled with various shades of blues, purples, browns, greens, yellows, oranges, and pinks. The shapes are separated, but many have shapes of contrasting colors within them. Underneath the piece to the left side are the words and name "Avenues" and beneath that with a copyright symbol "2022 Cynthia Friedlob" in a black, standard font.
