It is time to stop kicking the can down the road and begin to take seriously the damage we as consumers have had on our planet. Much of this damage has been fueled by the textile and fashion industries. As a former associate professor in a Fashion Design department, I am acutely aware of the symbiotic relationships between these two industries and us as consumers. My pieces are metaphors that intend to address the environmental damage caused by the textile and fashion industries along with the stress and traumas that surrounded many of us during Covid-19. I use my fabrics as others use paints & inks. Disrupting the natural order of the fabric by cutting it to create something new is simultaneously exhilarating and scary. When finished, I achieve a kaleidoscope of intersecting designs and patterns. Like pointillism, my pieces delight from afar yet reveal new intricacies upon closer inspection. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy. 1 of 3: Landfill. Part 01
A mix of different fabrics and textiles on a canvas. The top portion of the piece is a gray fabric that has a white wrinkled pattern, embroidered with thin blue and white thread in the top right corner. The bottom half of the piece contrasts the peacefulness of the single fabric with various pieces of white, gray, yellow and tan textiles that resemble hills. Underneath the hilled fabrics are lots of knotted, multicolored strings with frayed edges, piling on top of eachother.

2 of 3: Landfill. Part 04
A mix of fabrics and textiles on canvas. There are different multicolored, woven fabrics separated into strips by black thread. The fabric strips come together to create an abstract group of circular and angular shapes in the center of the piece.

3 of 3: Landfill. Part 07
Three square panels of woven fabrics and textiles against a white background in a wooden frame. The first panel has a uniform, multicolored piece of fabric that has blue edges and white stripes encompassing a pink and yellow stripe in the center;sunburst motifs repeat throughout the piece in a pattern. Underneath, the second panel has a piece of the same fabric with three white stripes, and a blue and pink stripe in between the white respectively. Circles of the sunburst motif have been cut out and sewed back onto the fabric in a circular pattern. The third panel has the same fabric but deconstructed, turned to the side and upside down to show the underside of the pattern. The fabric is frayed in an abstract line to create an organic shape, and sunburst motifs are cut out and sewed back onto the fabric throughout the panel.
