Frustration
A multimedia drawing of a head and hands floating in white space. The hands are holding onto either side of the head, with some fingers pressing into the forehead. The face is lowered and scrunched in frustration. They have multicolored skin in tones of blue, green, and yellow. Their short blonde hair is tied into a small ponytail atop their head, and their mouth and nose are covered by a pink COVID face mask.

At the beginning of the pandemic, I left my country. For a while, I was on the other side of the world without any connection to my family, confined to the basement of a university residence in Spain with four white walls around me and a computer. This made the depression and loneliness feel much greater, so to unburden myself I wrote hundreds of pages and drew until I got to this piece. "Frustration" was made in one of the hardest moments, in one of the territories with the highest number of infections. Fear was constant and the possibility of going out to get some fresh air around the university was not something that could even be considered. Loneliness tormented me more than the virus itself. The colors are loaded with symbolism that reference the feminist protests in Latin America, the protests in Colombia for human rights, and the coldness of loneliness in quarantine. Everything is symbolism that is intertwined with the same posture of the person in the frame. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy.
