I was bored and we had paint at home, so I started painting in a paper notebook. My best friend from high school was super artsy, so I wanted to be able to relate to her by showing her what I was capable of so we could paint together once COVID was over. Painting helped with my boredom. Because I had never really tried painting before, I ended up watching youtube videos on how to paint certain things. I looked up how to mix different colors of paint and how you don't have to only mix 2 colors together to make a different color but can have 3 or more to get a specific shade. The eyes, mouth, and nose painting was done because I wanted to challenge myself and create more detailed paintings. I also chose to put them in polaroids because polaroid pictures were slightly famous on TikTok and I wanted to make it more "vintage." I made an abstract mountain and lake painting because my family and I had just come back from a trip out west. I drew something that looked a lot like a spot in the Glacier National Park. The sunset and night sky painting was done when I was trying to learn how to blend colors together. It also reminded me a lot of the summer nights I spent in my hammock in May when I should have been in high school but couldn't go because COVID canceled school. I painted a waterfall because I wanted to test my ability to draw something in 3D. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy. 3 of 4: Untitled 5. Part 03
A painting of a sunset on a yellow, orange, and red background with two, small white clouds scattered below it. The sun is in the top right corner, the lightest yellow portion surrounding it. The painting is split in half horizontally so below the sunset is a dark, gradient blue sky with the moon in the lower left corner. The darkest portion of the gradient surrounds the moon, lightest touching the red hues of the sunny sky. Surrounding the moon are white speckles, resembling stars.
