A digital artwork of a covid-shaped molecule with a blue eye in the middle. There are different things coming off the spikes of the molecule such as the black power symbol fist, the numbers 2020, an american flag, a fire, a rainbow heart, and "Alana Kay ART" in cursive. The background of the molecule is wavering lines of colorful, bright resin pour art. A white mug with a covid-shaped molecule with a blue eye in the middle. The straps and bottom of the bag are red and there is also a red square patch with the artist's signature embossed on it in the lower right corner of the front of the bag.

I felt helpless for so many reasons during the pandemic. During this already difficult time, my father-in-law was in the middle of battling cancer, so my family had to remain extremely isolated as we were the only people they would see. I hunkered down in my home and painted and developed products. When I paint (pour resin) it is very therapeutic. I cannot control resin. I can only work with resin and learn how it might react based on different seasons, conditions, and color pairings. The original "Land of Oz" painting is resin and acrylic paint on a wood panel. I design and photograph all of my artworks myself, though I did hire a graphic designer to help me properly lay out the "Land of Oz 2020" graphic. This commission came at a difficult time where I wasn't sure if anyone would ever purchase art from me again, but "Land of Oz" opened up my creative brain in lots of new ways. From this painting, I went on to create many products using this artwork. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy.
