Davis writes to Lucinda explaining that he is sure she has not been receiving his letters promptly due to Wheeler's Raid. He notes that the front is quiet, and he suspects that no fighting will occur for sometime. Davis continues by detailing that he believes the army will be reorganized for the fall campaign. Davis writes that the Regiment has not yet returned and that they are stationed near Winchester, Tennessee. He details that Ed Rogers is in the Pioneer Corps with him, and that Rogers has received very few letters from Elias. In regards to the political election, Davis writes that he does not think a political war will begin in the North because the Sneaking Peace men and Copperheads are too cowardly to fight. Davis details that most soldiers he has talked to are voting for President Lincoln again. He concludes by stating he suspects the Regiment will come home between now and Christmas.
